In Ontario, Canada, FIT projects approved for MH, AH

The province’s Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has approved a number of feed-in tariff (FIT) projects for Minden Hills and Algonquin Highlands. 

The IESO recently released a list of 936 renewable energy projects that were approved in the latest round of applications, more than 20 of them in Haliburton County. 

In Algonquin Highlands, five ground-mounted, solar projects were approved, all of them receiving support resolutions from Algonquin Highlands council last year. 

Energy Bill introduced to UK parliament

Described as a “once in a generation opportunity” to drive low-carbon economic growth by Energy Secretary, Ed Davey, the Energy Bill has been introduced to parliament today after repeated delays.

In a statement to the House of Commons, Davey said: “The Energy Bill will attract investment to bring about a transformation of our electricity market, moving from predominantly a fossil-fuel to a diverse low-carbon generation mix.”

Staring hard, it was barely possible to make out the turbines on the horizon. Ten miles from shore, the Baltic 1 Wind Farm seemed as small and insubstantial as the scruffy grass along the coast. But, in fact, each of the nearly two dozen turbines is as tall as a 27-story building and has fiberglass epoxy blades nearly 150 feet long. Work has already begun on wind farms with even larger turbines that will generate twice the power of those at Baltic 1, enough to supply 250,000 households with electricity.

Phillippines ERC releases feed-in-tariff rates for renewable energy

The Energy Regulatory Commission on Friday approved the long-awaited feed-in tariffs (FIT) for renewable energy sources, a move expected to encourage investors in the industry.

Investors in hydro energy will get a FIT rate of P5.90/kWh, while those for biomass will get P6.63/kWh; for wind - P8.53/kWh and for solar P9.68/kWh. No FIT for ocean thermal energy conversion resource was set, pending further study.

The Renewable  Energy Act of 2008 (RE Act) mandated FITs for wind, solar, run-of-river hydro,  biomass and ocean resources, to encourage developers to invest in the renewable energy industry.
