Bangladesh approves Clean Energy Act, 2012

The Cabinet on June 18 approved the draft of Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority Act, 2012 aiming to increase the production and use of green energy in the country.

The approval was given at the regular weekly meeting of the cabinet held at Bangladesh Secretariat with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said the government has initiated the renewable energy law framing to bring use of the renewable energy under a legal framework as use of the renewable energy including biogas and solar energy have been increased in the country in recent years.

Philippines: RE developers concerned over removal of incentives

RENEWABLE-energy developers are concerned over the possible removal of incentives given under the Renewable Energy Act should the proposed Senate bill that aims to rationalize incentives be approved.

Peregrino Fernandez, Renewable Energy Developers Caucus convener, said he is saddened by the development, especially in the face of rising oil prices.

“We have repeatedly said renewable energy is an investment for the future, a hedge on expensive fossil fuel. The longer we wait, the more burden the economy carries on its back,” Fernandez said.

The draft of the Senate bill, known as the Consolidated Investments Incentives Code of the Philippines, says only export-oriented companies will be given incentives.

Borneo: Legislations for Renewable Energy Act 2011 being worked out


MIRI: Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water is now going full speed in making the necessary preparations and formulation of subsidiary legislations to the Renewable Energy Act 2011.

Its minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin yesterday said the Act was an important piece of legislation that would create an environment conducive for renewable energy to grow in an effective and sustainable manner.
